6 Of Porto's Best Gelato & Ice Cream Spots

Here are Porto’s best ice cream and gelato spots, handpicked after plenty of taste testing (for research, of course).

Porto’s Sweet Side: Top Gelato and Ice Cream Spots You Need to Try

One of my favourite things about living in Porto is how the city always seems to surprise me with small pleasures. Everyone talks about pastel de nata when they think of Portugal — and don’t get me wrong, it truly is one of the most delicious pastries in the world. But sometimes, nothing hits quite like a cold, creamy gelato or a scoop of ice cream.

Over time, I’ve taste tested my way through Porto’s ice cream spots (tough job, I know 😅), and I’ve found some real gems worth sharing. Whether you’re a pistachio purist, a chocolate addict, or someone who hunts down the most unusual flavours, this list will point you to the best gelato and ice cream in Porto.

Nivà Gelato

If you’re searching for the best gelato in Porto, Niva should be at the top of your list.

Located in Matosinhos, this artisanal gelateria serves gelato that’s as smooth and creamy as anything you’ll find in Italy. These guys only use the highest quality ingredients. Seriously, their gelato is made from Italian milk straight from the pastures in the Italian Alps. You can truly taste the difference in every bite.

The best part, they’re VERY generous with their serving. I usually order a mini cup (€3.50), the smallest size, and you already have the option to order 2 flavours! My go-to is the Banana Açai with dulce de leche, but I would also recommend trying their chocolate and mango.

Cremosi

Cremosi is a local favorite and one of the most consistent ice cream shops in Porto. With several locations around the city, it’s known for its silky texture and playful flavours that balance creativity with comfort. You’ll find classics like hazelnut and lemon sorbet sitting next to Portuguese inspired options such as Bolo de Bolacha and Pastel de Nata gelato.

Amorino

Yes, Amorino is a chain but it’s one that’s earned its global reputation for a reason. This place is a reliable stop for beautifully crafted Italian gelato in Porto, made with quality ingredients and that unmistakable creamy texture. You can choose as many flavours as you like, and the presentation is half the fun.

BONUS: if you order your ice cream on a cone, they sculpt it into the shape of a rose!  Making it extra Instagrammable and almost too pretty to eat.

Segreti do Chef

A newcomer to Porto’s gelato scene, Segreti do Chef in Foz is as much about the atmosphere as the ice cream itself. The moment you step inside, it feels like entering an ice cream shop tucked inside an Italian manor — ornate crown moulding, painted walls and ceilings, and a colour palette that’s just *chef’s kiss*.

The gelato is equally elegant: creamy, balanced, and clearly made with care. It’s the kind of place that turns a simple gelato run into a full on experience.

Gelataria Sincelo

Ask anyone who’s lived in Porto long enough where to get ice cream, and you’ll hear the same answer again and again: Sincelo. It’s one of the city’s oldest gelato shops in Porto, and it’s been serving locals and tourists for decades. Their fruit flavours — especially the mango and lemon — are bursting with freshness and have that nostalgic, homemade taste.

If you want to experience a little piece of Porto tradition with your cone, Sincelo is the place to do it. Find a sunny bench outside, people-watch, and enjoy a scoop that’s stood the test of time.

Gelados Santini

Santini is a Portuguese legend that started in Lisbon and has now made its way to Porto — and thank goodness it did. This iconic gelato shop in Porto is famous for its natural ingredients and ultra-fresh flavours, especially the strawberry, which has a cult following for good reason.

Every scoop tastes like real fruit, not syrup, and the texture strikes that perfect balance between light and creamy. Whether you’re a first time visitor or a repeat offender (guilty), Santini is a must visit stop on any sweet lover’s map of Porto.
