Where to Find the Best Matcha in Porto

From classic matcha lattes to frozen matcha (and matcha dessert!) there’s something  for every type of matcha lover.

5 Places In Porto Serving Matcha That’ll Whisk You Away

Matcha, the vibrant green drink that somehow manages to be both ancient and Instagrammable all at once. Once reserved for traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, is now a full blown global obsession.

And while Porto may have taken its time catching up to the craze, the city’s matcha scene is finally picking up. These days, you don’t have to search high and low or settle for a sad, clumpy green latte.

But if you are still on the struggle bus trying to find a decent cup, don’t panic Maria Cardoso has you covered. She’s the founder of Matcha Lata, a community that gathers once a month to connect and meet new people over matcha (or coffee). I sat down with Maria to get the inside scoop on her favourite local spots serving matcha done right.

🍵 Here are Maria’s top picks for matcha in Porto ⤵️

Kiwa Café Porto

📍 Rua de Anselmo Braamcamp 14

“When people ask me where to find real matcha in Porto, I always say Kiwa,” Maria tells me without hesitation. “Their menu is surprisingly diverse. You have classic latte to coconut matcha and even seasonal twists. But what stands out is how authentic it tastes.”

You can feel the Japanese inspiration the second you step inside: minimal design, warm light, and that quiet, calming atmosphere that makes you want to stay all afternoon. “We actually hosted our very first Matcha Lata meet up there!” Maria adds.

Von&Vonnie microroasters

📍Rua do Heroísmo 10

“I discovered von&vonnie through one of our Matcha Lata meet ups,” Maria says. “It’s such a gorgeous space.”

Their matcha has that perfect smoothness and pairs beautifully with their homemade pastries (the brownies are a must). “I honestly didn’t expect much from a coffee-focused place,” Maria admits, “but they really surprised me. Their matcha is genuinely good.”

CA Downtown

📍Praça de Carlos Alberto 89

“CA Downtown’s strawberry matcha is the best I’ve had in Porto,” Maria says, leaning in as if she’s sharing a secret. “It’s perfectly balanced, fruity but not too sweet.”

The café itself is lively and modern, a favourite among locals for brunch, but Maria insists the matcha alone is worth the trip. “They also have a pistachio matcha that’s been on my list forever,” she laughs. “I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard great things.”

Join Matcha Lata's Upcoming Events!

If matcha for you is more than just a morning pick-me-up, Matcha Lata might be your kind of crowd. This Porto based community gathers once a month to slow down and connect over shared rituals. Whether that’s a matcha workshop, a mindful activity, or simply good conversation.

It’s relaxed, welcoming, and the perfect way to meet others who get just as excited about the perfect whisk. Follow @matcha.lata on Instagram to join the next meet-up and keep an eye on upcoming events.

Luˈkaɫ

📍 Rua da Torrinha 178

“Everyone knows luˈkaɫ for their parties, that’s actually how I discovered them,” Maria recalls. “But then I tried their matcha, and it completely won me over.”

It’s one of those effortlessly cool spaces. Communal seating, open space, industrial-modern design.

“José, the owner, uses Tranquilo Matcha, Spanish brand I really like. I’ve hosted two Matcha Lata meet ups there already, and it’s honestly one of my favourite spots in Porto now.”

Glad

📍R. de Rodrigues Sampaio 162

“You wouldn’t expect a chocolate bar to serve good matcha, right?” Maria grins. “But Glad does, and they do it really well.”

This intimate, design-forward space is known for its artisanal chocolates, but their matcha deserves a spotlight of its own. “They use Slow Social Hub matcha, it’s a Portuguese brand, and as far as I know, the only one. I love supporting local producers, and the quality is amazing,” Maria says. “It’s one of those unexpected finds that make Porto’s matcha scene so special.”

So there you have it! Porto’s best matcha spots. From classic matcha lattes to frozen matcha (and matcha dessert!) there’s something out there for every type of matcha lover. Follow @matcha.lata for more matcha magic, and don’t forget to tag #OhMyPorto when you find your favourite spot.
